A Normal Delivery Driving Day and Bodyweight Push Ups

Arrived at the depot for 6.45am. 108 deliveries and collections, with 175 parcels handled.

Left the depot at 5:45pm, 11hr day, bosh.

Finally the snow backlogged parcels are no more, a normal delivery day at last this week.

Got home, food prepped and decided not to do any weight lifting again, will do some Barbell Squats at the weekend, but today just did some push ups.

25 x bodyweight push ups x 4 sets.

Chest was nice and pumped after these haha.

Shit, what to do with these extra few hours this evening, not used to this.

Think a bit of reading of one of the new books I’ve just got on the history of my club Manchester United, followed by some more footy on TV me thinks.

Until next time…

Friday Deliveries and Unwinding Weekends

Friday was by far the easiest day of this week. Arrived at the depot for 6:50am. 90 deliveries and collections, with 160 parcels handled.

Left the depot at 5:30pm. Bosh.

I’ve never been one for wishing the week away and always wanting the weekend, I think it’s mainly because I generally enjoy my job and look forward to it most days, however, I do love the weekends and doing my own thing, albeit chillaxing and doing nothing or a hobby of some kind.

This weekend was a mixture, I chilled out, listened to music, watched movies, did some bread making and even some gardening, albeit briefly because its fecking freezing at the moment.

I got a few plants from the local garden centre plus some bare root strawberry plants too, ready to go for next weekend when I’ll plant them all up and pop them in the little green house we’ve got.

Did a little exercise today too.

10 x 18kg Weighted Push Ups

10 x 15kg Weighted Push Ups

15 x 10kg Weighted Push Ups

Managed to dig out my weights vest for the heaviest set. And the other sets just balancing some weights on my back.

I can’t remember what my max is on weighted push ups, I need to have a dig around to find out, but I think it’s around 30kg, so I think I’ve got a way to work up to yet.

Mmmm I can smell Sunday roast cooking om nom nom.

Until next time…

Weighted Olympic Ring Push Ups and Starting a Long Term Goal.

So Friday was the quietest day of the week delivery wise, still a long day though.

Arrived at the depot for 7am. 86 deliveries and collections, with 139 parcels handled. Left the depot at 6:30pm. 11.5hrs, meh.

Should have been 30 minutes or more than that though, but due to a lovely customer not numbering their house, or should I say cottage. I had to go back on myself during the day to redeliver something as they made a complaint about me not finding their property. Yeah, because not putting signs up where ‘your’ property is then ‘my’ fault for not finding it. Bastards.

Knackered when I got home, so chillaxed with some rum and music.

Weekends always seem rushed, which I think is due to my job. I wake up thinking I have to do things at the same pace I work at during the week, 100 miles an hour lol. But then when I finish tasks I’m like what do I do now, I always feel like I’ve got to accomplish things rather than just do them and enjoy the time I’m doing them.

I know I enjoy being outdoors, going for country walks etc, but I feel like I have to be working rather than just enjoying being outdoors. I think that comes from the 10 odd years I worked on the land and whenever I was outdoors I was working.

I do enjoy working with my hands and plants, and I think I’d enjoy working with animals too.

I guess I’m technically working outdoors now, being a delivery driver, but it’s not the same.

My ultimate goal is to end up with some kind of a smallholding. I’d like to have enough land to have a few animals, some pigs and chickens and a few cows for fresh milk, a few cats and dogs too. And then enough land to grow a few bits of fruit and veg on.

I know to get there I’ve got a lot of work to do from where I am now and ultimately I may never end up there, but I’ve got to start somewhere and for me, that’s paying off my debt and then saving up some money.

My rough aim is that when I reach 50 I’ll be in a position to either buy somewhere or at the least, rent somewhere long term.

Hopefully, it’ll happen sooner than that, but my rough guesstimates are that time frame, so that’s what I’m planning on.

It gives me something to aim for longterm, but also I’ve got plenty of things to aim for in the short term to get there. And some people might think it’s a bit later to be aiming for something like this, but as I’ve said before, I don’t intend on retiring as such, mainly because I enjoy working on what I do and don’t see the need to retire from it.

Perhaps that’s why so many people are focussed on retirement because they’re not in jobs that they enjoy?

Anyway, Saturday was a rest day, chilled out all day, although I still did things they were for once at a relaxed pace lol. Then today Sunday amongst other things, I decided to do some Weighted Olympic Ring Push Ups.

Oh boy. Won’t be doing these again for a while.

I’ve not done any ring push ups for a few years but thought I’d give them a go today for a laugh. I forgot how annoying they are to set up when they aren’t set up permanently.

I was fiddling around with the height for ages, trying to get them level, all for about 5 minutes of exercise, then I took them down again. Yeah, won’t be doing that again pmsl.

I also forgot how much I really like them. It seems to be a theme of mine to like difficult exercises lol. I’m going to give pistol squats ago again next weekend!

Anyway, I did the first set of bodyweight ring pushups and after being really unstable for the first few, I soon got back into the swing of things. So I added some weight for the next two sets.

10 x Bodyweight Olympic Ring Push Ups

8 x 5kg Weighted Olympic Ring Push Ups

8 x 10kg Weighted Olympic Ring Push Ups

Nothing overly taxing weight wise, but enough to work my muscles nicely and I could tell so as I could really feel the squeeze in my chest at the top of each rep.

Anyway, that’s enough of them, as I said, they take too long to set up and I find getting the level of each ring a pain, a bit ocd but I like them to be exactly level. So I’ll sit tight on doing them regularly until I can get them set up somewhere permanently again, I’ll stick to plain old weighted pushups for a while.

Right, I’m off to order a few books on smallholding that I saw recommended by another smallholder. That’s all I can do, for now, learn about things. Although I am going to try growing a few fruits in pots in the garden again this year, rather than just sticking with flowers. Been a while since I’ve grown anything food wise, think it’s about time I got back into it.

Until next time…

Monday, bloody Monday.

I’ve never hated any day of the week, not even Mondays when they’re the first day of the work week.

But delivering parcels on a Monday after a weekend of relaxing, is a bit of a rude awakening.

As soon as I get into the depot, it’s full on and you certainly wake up pretty quickly if you’re not already.

Anyway, a quick post, so keeping it short.

At the depot for 7am. 100 deliveries with collections throughout the day. Left the depot at 6:15pm.

Had to wash the van as it was filthy, so didn’t get home till gone 7:15pm.

Made my lunch for the next day and put my dinner on, then went and did a quick bunch of push ups.

25 x normal push ups

20 x wide push ups

15 x narrow push ups

Short and sweet workout.

Until next time…

Maintenance exercise is enough until things change

Phewee, I had the busiest day ever since starting at my new job 3 months ago.

It wasn’t the longest day at 11hrs, but it was by far the busiest, so much juice making ready for our big kick off in a high end London store tomorrow, which is exciting but fuck me it’s manic lol

I had good plans last week of having had done 2 weight lifting sessions by tonight, but Friday night I felt whacked from the first day back at work after the Christmas binge, so I stuck to some push ups and chins ups, and then tonight I was so tired when I left work that I thought fuck it, I peddle harder and faster than ever before cycling home and then I did a few sets of chin ups and push ups and that was me done.

I’ve made my food for tomorrow, had my dinner and I’m sat here knackered as fuck and ready for bed soon. What a hero!

I’m not beating myself up about not lifting weights yet as I’m still doing something, which is better than nothing, and for me anyway is simple keeping the cogs oiled as it were.

It’s at least giving my body a better way of recovering from the Christmas binge and I think I might have been a little optimistic in my planning last week lol.

Hey ho, only another 4 days of daytime work, but they’re going to be 13hr days I think, which will probably mean I’m fucked getting home so foresee sticking to just bodyweight exercise for this coming week, we’ll see.

Until next time…

My 2nd 1/2 Cindy WOD didn’t kill me and I actually improved.

So despite me feeling like I was nearly dead on Monday after completing my first 1/2 Cindy crossfit workout, I went for it again 48 hrs later.

And to my surprise I was actually quicker this time, finishing my 7 rounds in 9 mins 20 secs.

I was going to try for another round, but I was fucked and knew that I couldn’t get through it in 40 secs, so I stopped the clock and rejoiced that it was over and that I’d beaten my time by a full min!

I did a quick Periscope for 5 mins just to show of my sweaty face and heavy breathing lol.

For those that didn’t know, I’ve been doing a health and fitness show on the new live streaming app called Periscope. And although it’s only been going for nearly 2 weeks I’ve had some great feedback and plenty of people asking health and fitness related questions, which is great.

I’d highly recommend downloading the Periscope app, it’s free and available on Apple and android and my user name on it is @WeeMikeSilver if you fancy following me and getting a notification when i’m live.

The show airs at 7pm BST Tues, Thurs and Sundays. I’ve had all sorts of questions asked during the show, some not so good but mostly proper questions that I’ve been able to offer advice on from my own personal experience and knowledge gained in the last 15 yrs.

Anyway that’s enough of that. I’m so glad I’ve got another 48 hrs break until the next Cindy WOD lol, but this weekend will be tough as I’ll do the 1/2 Cindy on Sat then my heavy weight workout on Sun and then followed by another 1/2 Cindy on Monday, phewee I’m gunna be pooped!

Hey Ho it’s a hard life, not!!

Until next time…

The 1/2 Cindy W.O.D nearly killed me, but I’m doing it again.

In case you missed my last post, I’ve decided to change of my usual heavy weight workouts and throw in some crossfit.

I’m replacing 3 workouts a week with a crossfit workout and keeping 1 day a week to heavy weight lifting.

Monday was my first EVER experience of a crossfit workout and I started at the beginning with one called a half Cindy.

Holy. Shit. I. Nearly. Died.

I’m not one for exaggerating (unless I really need to) but I was seriously out of breath, my chest was tight, my arms were killing me and I felt like I’d run a fucking marathon.

In case you don’t know what a half Cindy is, it’s 5 pull ups , 10 push ups and 15 squats, all done as a continuous round and once you’ve done the squats you start again with the pull ups, no stopping.

You have to continue that for 10 ball busting minutes and the idea is to do as many rounds as you can.

Well, I managed 7 full rounds in 10 mins 20 secs. I didn’t want to stop at 10 mins so just finished my last round.

What killed me the most was the pull ups.

I don’t like the kipping pull ups in cross fit, so I stuck with standard fully controlled up and down pull ups, no swinging at all.

By the 4th round my arms we screaming at me to stop, but the push ups and squats were fine, it was just the pull ups that did me in.

I can do about 8-9 good form pull ups (chin well over the bar) for a few sets, but I normally take about 3 mins rest between the sets, not the 1 min that took me to do the push ups and squats during the half Cindy lol.

Anyway, that was Monday and I’m doing another half Cindy tonight, so it will be interesting to see how it goes. My quads are a little sore from Monday, but nothing major, I’ve had a lot worse when doing heavy squats so I’m used to it.

I’ll put up another post tomorrow on how I did, wish me luck!

Until next time…
